Depth Psychotherapy

Depth psychotherapy emphasizes awareness and exploration of the unconscious. ‘The unconscious,’ simply put, includes aspects of experience (thoughts, feelings, physical sensations, memories, dreams, images, patterns, +) that exist outside of your conscious awareness. This approach can be supportive for those who wish live more intentionally and authentically, as well as for those who would like to get to the ‘root’ of their struggles.

There are a number of ways to bring unconscious aspects of experience into conscious awareness such as expressive arts, dreamwork, ritual, sandtray, and somatic practices. Likewise, through thoughtful questioning on my part and deep introspection on yours, it is possible to access new insights, ideas, and authentic expression. This approach meshes well with individuals who are curious about their inner worlds.

We will bring conscious awareness to all that has shaped you up to this point: relationships, experiences, interests. What is the map you were given when you entered the world? Religious and cultural influences, family history and expectations… Do you still follow this map? Have you diverged in some way? Re-written it?

While focused inward and on the individual, depth psychotherapy does not ignore outer conditions or material reality. To live authentically and intentionally — liberated — it’s vital to acknowledge what stands in the way of collective liberation. We’ll bring material and systemic influences to light, interrogating ways these have molded your sense of self and experience of the world.
