Therapeutic Body Doubling

Please note that this service is offered only to current clients or as an adjunct service (an add-on to your current therapy).

You are not the only one who dreads responding to emails/texts, and you’re not alone in putting off important phone calls. You might find yourself avoiding work or school-related tasks, chores, and even projects or activities that are genuinely fulfilling to you. This is a really common experience for ADHDers and autistics. And it can be really overwhelming & discouraging.

If you’re not familiar with body-doubling, it’s a strategy for task initiation/completion that involves having someone present with you while you work on those emails, assignments, or projects. People “body-double” with a friend, co-worker, or even strangers online in order to get shit done. Body-doubling helps reduce distractions, stay focused, and there’s just something about not being alone with those scary, terrible tasks that makes things feel more doable.

I offer adjunct neuro-affirming and trauma-informed body doubling to those who need the support of a body double and would like to use body doubling to further their goals for therapy.

I’ll be there to support you if an email feels absolutely untouchable because you’re worried the person on the other end is mad at you and it’s triggering a trauma response. I’ll be there to help brainstorm accommodations or work-arounds for tasks that are just too much and are possibly contributing to burnout. Most of all, I’ll provide a gently encouraging, deeply understanding, low-stress presence while keeping you accountable to your big-picture hopes & goals.

Therapeutic body doubling is different from your typical body-doubling because the goal, ultimately, is not productivity. There’s stuff you want to get done, and yes, body doubling will help you do it. But this offering is better suited to someone who is hoping to learn more about themselves and their needs, and is open to accommodating and caring for oneself rather than pushing through the task. This offering may also be useful for someone who finds certain tasks distressing or highly overwhelming, but simply must do them, and could use the supportive presence of a therapist while completing the tasks.

Therapeutic body doubling sessions are different from therapy sessions because our focus will be on specific tasks, rather than broader processing/exploration. I’ll be less active than therapists typically are in an individual therapy session because if you’re in the zone, I won’t want to disrupt that. I’ll just support you in getting started and jump in as needed. You may leave our body doubling sessions with new realizations or information about yourself that you can take to your therapy sessions.

The cost is $30 for up to 30 min. & $60 for up to 60 min. We can set up a weekly spot or you can reach out when you need it to see what openings I have available. Limited spots are available each week.
