Fee for Therapy

I do not accept any forms of insurance. I offer a sliding scale for therapy ranging from $145 to $195 per individual therapy session.

My standard rate for individual therapy is $170 per session.

If you are someone who frequently stresses about meeting your needs, has limited expendable income, or is unable to submit superbills to your insurance for reimbursement, I can slide as low as $145 a session.

If you are someone who is comfortably able to meet your needs, has an expendable income, investments, retirement accounts, or inherited money, or has a high earning power due to level of education, gender, racial, or class privilege, I encourage you to pay up to $195 a session. In doing so, you’ll be supporting accessibility for those who cannot pay my standard rate.

When letting me know which fee will work best for you, there is no need for any explanation or justification. I acknowledge that everyone’s financial situation is complex and I trust you to make the best decision for yourself. I increase the bottom and top of my scale by $15 annually on January 1.

I encourage you to take advantage of insurance reimbursements depending on your out-of-network benefits. I am happy to provide a superbill for our sessions. Please let me know if you plan to use superbills because we will need to provide your insurance with a diagnosis.

My sliding scale is inspired by The Sliding Scale: A Tool of Economic Justice by Alexis J. Cunningfolk of Worts & Cunning Apothecary.

Good Faith Estimate

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.

You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is a session and how often will we meet?

A standard therapy session runs up to 60 minutes. Therapy is most effective with consistency. Depending on your needs, we may meet weekly or every other week. I am unable to meet sporadically or on an as-needed basis and will need us to agree on a general schedule. As you start feeling better and having less of a need for therapy, we will reduce our frequency.

How long will I need therapy?

Length of therapy is highly variable. I am unable to predict the length of therapy or guarantee any outcome. We will check in frequently about how therapy is going and whether you are getting what you need from our work together. You have the right to terminate or take a break from therapy at any time without my permission or agreement. I also encourage you to let me know if you have some sort of timeline in mind.

What is your cancellation policy?

I do not charge any amount for cancellations (including late cancellations and no-shows) that occur once in a while for any reason. If cancellations become frequent, I’ll initiate a conversation about how we can make our sessions more accessible for you. If frequent cancellations continue, I won’t be able to hold your spot and we’ll need to make alternative arrangements.

Do you ever cancel sessions?

Yes. Illness, a chronic pain flare, or a personal/family emergency are all reasons I might cancel a session. I try my best to keep my cancellations to a minimum and give you as much notice as I can. If I am unable to meet due to planned time off, I will let you know 2 weeks in advance.

How do the video sessions work?

I use a platform called Simple Practice which will send you reminders and links for our video sessions.
