Creature Comfort Therapy
Lou Ursa, LMFT
Welcome,
I hope to provide a soft landing place where we can focus on you and your needs.
Most who reach out to me are creative and sensitive types, queer, autistic &/or adhd. I support people who are navigating the impacts of a traumatic, abusive, or emotionally neglectful childhood. Many experienced growing up with emotionally immature parents/caregivers. Additionally, I am experienced in supporting exploration of authentic self-expression, whether that be gender, sexuality, neurodivergence, creativity, or spirituality.
My therapeutic approach is person-centered, psychodynamic and experiential. I’m interested in learning about the patterns of self-protection you took on growing up. Our work together might involve deep verbal processing, somatic awareness, parts work, or creative expression. We’ll also notice what shows up in the relationship between you and me. I have extensive training in Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing therapy (EMDR) and dreamwork.
I’m rooted in trauma-informed practice and prioritize checking in with you about how therapy is feeling, following your pace, and finding the approach to therapy that you find most intuitive (rather than pushing any particular approach). I’m culturally sensitive, politically-informed, and maintain an intersectional lens. I acknowledge the validity of intense feelings and existential fears related to the climate crisis.
My practice is entirely online. I offer individual therapy to adults of all ages across California.
About me…
I live in Santa Cruz with my partner, our chihuahua terrier, and our orange cat. I am queer and use they/she pronouns.
I like to spend my time creating collages. I love hiking, backpacking and other outdoor activities that bring me into my body and into connection with the beyond-human world.
I earned my Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology, emphasis in depth psychology, from Pacifica Graduate Institute in 2021.
I chose to become a therapist because therapy has been & continues to be a huge support in my own life. As a neurodivergent person who endured an abusive and emotionally neglectful childhood, I intimately understand how the past can keep haunting the present. I hope to be a support to others who may be experiencing something similar.
